Excursion Essaouira, an invigorating getaway on the Moroccan Atlantic coast ! Departure to Marrakech at 8 H. After 3 H road, arrival in Essaouira, the white and blue pearl of the Atlantic. Essaouira, renowned for its beautiful sandy beaches that stretch for kilometers and where the heat is never overwhelming because the wind blows constantly ! Essaouira, charming ocean city with its white houses with blue shutters and its ocher ramparts which surround the city.

From Place Moulay-Hassan located near the port where cafes are always full, we join the Sqala, an artillery platform built by the Portuguese whose crenellated wall overlooks the ocean. Seagull squawking, rolling waves and spray that lashes your face ! This is where Orson Welles filmed the main scenes of his film Othello. (palme d'or at the Cannes film festival in 1952).

The bronze cannons aimed at the ocean dating from the late 18th century are Spanish. Below the platform, the old casemates where ammunition was stored which house shops and workshops run by craftsmen, especially the craftsmen who work the cedar of Barbary or arar, a wood that retains its heady scent for a long time and is found in abundance in the Essaouira region.

After the Sqala, discovery of the alleys of the medina. Many souks, businesses are grouped by specialty : Pisces, spices, herbalists, clothes …… We then go to the fishing port by crossing Bab el Aljn, the Porte de la Marine built in 1769 by an English convert to Islam. On the Haven, the animation is at its peak. Fishermen offer fish, shellfish and seafood from the catch of the day.

Lunch break in one of the restaurants located near the port or in a restaurant of your choice. This is the perfect place to eat fish, it goes directly from the ocean to your plate ! After lunch, 2 H free time to take an invigorating stroll along the beach and, to take advantage of the bathing season before returning to Marrakech towards 20 H.
